SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- A turf war over surf wear between a California community and a shop owner in another city has been resolved, a lawyer involved in the trademark dispute said. Richard Sybert, who represents the tourism bureau in Huntington Beach, Calif., said a settlement with Flotsam of California Inc. in Santa Cruz over the "Surf City" designation will halt sales of T-shirts reading: "Surf City, Santa Cruz California, U.S.A." at the store, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday. "My client is pleased at the resolution," he said. "The shirts will be changed and the challenge to my client's trademark dismissed." Theodore Townsend Herhold, an attorney for Flotsam, confirmed the matter had been resolved. "T-shirts will be on sale again, and we'll let everybody draw their own conclusions from that," he said.
Heath Ledger and Lindsay Lohan 'meet for sex sessions'
A source told Australia's New Weekly magazine: "Lindsay and Heath hit it off straight away. When she left the club she started texting him straight away and they hooked up a few times while she was still in New York. They were meeting late at night for sex. It was purely physical." Lindsay travelled to New York with Riley - who she met at Utah's Sundance rehab clinic in August - but the pair were seen out partying separately during their stay in the same city. The 21-year-old actress had reportedly grown tired of Riley's jealousy and dumped him shortly after they returned to Los Angeles on November 25 following their Thanksgiving break. Heath, 28, split from his girlfriend Michelle Williams - with who he has a two-year-old daughter, Matilda - in September.
Isle sales executive served as mentor
John "Bernie" Armstrong Jr., a decades-long Honolulu media executive who helped dozens of people get started in the business, died last month in Walnut Creek, Calif. He was 72. Armstrong had been battling cancer for two years and died in a hospice home among relatives on Dec. 21, his son Adam said. Armstrong was born in Pittsburgh on Sept. 2, 1935, to parents who were entertainers. His father conducted a symphony orchestra on the radio, and his mother was a former stage personality. After studying at the University of Miami in Florida and spending four years in the Navy, Armstrong found his first successful career -- music, recording four albums and several singles for Warner Bros. with folk groups during the 1960s. In 1964 he became music and program director at a Pittsburgh radio station, and worked later at KGU-AM in Honolulu after moving to Hawaii in 1973.
Memories from the blizzard of '78
I remember seeing cars buried in the snow, past their door handles, and holding the bag of groceries on the toboggan as we headed home again. What a great idea to share stories from that blizzard! Have fun reading & collecting them all! - Amanda Creeden In 1978, I was an 8th grade student at Hillside Jr. High at the time of the blizzard. We lived on the westside. The snow was falling so fast and the flakes were the size of over sized golf balls; causing the roads to be covered hip deep (I'm 5'8') by morning. The snow had blown and drifted to the top of the garage windows all over the neighborhood; making it nearly impossible to get the cars out of the garage. Because the roads were covered with snow, the schools were closed for almost a week, which allowed me to stay up past my bedtime, 9:00 p.m., bonus! During the days ahead many neighbors were forging out to gather groceries, since everyone was snowed in.

Brey not afraid of big picture
The idea, this week, is to build some immunity when you can. "A more together, stable group comes to the top over 18 games more than in 16 games," Brey said. "If we hang in there, stay together, keep swinging, when the smoke clears, we can be right there." ---------- bchamilton@tribune.com More articles Copyright © 2008, The Chicago Tribune .
